Evidence-based skills training program for caregivers of children under age 5.
Thanks to a grant from The Duke Endowment, in 2020 we became the first in South Carolina to implement SafeCare as a model within our existing programs. SafeCare focuses on 3 key outcomes that are universally important for all families: creating positive relationships between caregivers and their children, ensuring homes are safe to reduce the risk of child unintentional injury, and keeping children as healthy as possible.
working on skills in 3 areas:
Parent-Child Interaction: to help them structure daily activities for their children, provide engaging and stimulating age-appropriate activities for them, increase positive interactions, and prevent challenging child behavior.
Safety: to help childproof the home by identifying and eliminating safety and health hazards and to teach the importance of proper caregiver supervision of children.
Health: to help them identify common childhood illnesses and injuries and implement a structured process to determine when and how to care for their child when sick or injured.
Participation in SafeCare is voluntary, but any family enrolled in our Therapeutic Child Care or Family Connections programs are eligible. We are proud to offer this valuable tool and resource to families in Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield, and McCormick counties!
